Chloe Sevigny has experienced her fair share of sexual harassment over the years — she has been working in Hollywood since she was 19, after all. But this time she’s not staying quiet.
At Variety’s recent panel at Cannes, Chloe revealed that she had been sexually harassed by at least 3 directors, explaining that they had all “crossed a line.” So what exactly went down?
I’ve had the ‘what are you doing after this?’ conversation. I’ve also had the ‘do you want to go shopping and try on some clothes and, like, I can buy you something in the dressing room’ [conversation],” Chloe said.
She’s also a director tell her, “You should show your body off more. You shouldn’t wait until you’re as old as this certain actress who had just been naked in a film, you should be naked on screen now.”
Um, gross! We feel so disgusted that Chloe had to go this, but unfortunately we can’t say we’re shocked. With so many young girls passing in and out of Hollywood it’s no surprise that men would want to take advantage. In fact, that’s been Chloe’s motivation for coming forward: she wants to warn young girls who may get caught in the cross-hairs.
“If you’re young and impressionable and really want the part, it might be a tempting avenue, but I hope not,” she said.
We’re so impressed that Chloe was brave enough to come forward. As Confirmation reminded us, it can be incredible difficult to tell someone about sexual harassment in the workplace for fear of the backlash that can occur. And we seriously hope budding actresses head her words.
