Gayle King Gets Real on Oprah, Her Biggest Regrets, and Finding Her Husband in Bed with Another Woman

Gayle King has always been our BFC —best friend crush, if you will. Who else would we want by our side to go camping, to chat about politics, or to just laze around with, after all?

Gayle recently chatted with Vanity Fair and answered everything from her biggest regrets to her greatest achievements. Our favorite? Probably has to be her fear of dying via a goose flying into the engine of her plane.

Her greatest extravagance…

“I love throwing a good party, and if it’s for someone I care about, I pull out all the stops.”

Her greatest achievement…

“Raising two compassionate human beings. . .though waking up at 3:20 every morning is also quite an accomplishment.”

The thing she most dislikes…

“Sitting in New York traffic.”

Her biggest fear…

“I know we all have to die, but when my time comes, I’d rather it not be because a goose flew into the engine of a plane I’m on.”

The living person she most admires…

“Oprah Winfrey. She always does the right thing—even when no one is looking.”

The living person she most despises…

“Despise is a strong word. I’m not a huge fan of the woman I caught naked with my now ex-husband on June 24, 1990, at 9:16 P.M.—but I don’t remember the details.”

The one thing she wishes she could change about her family…

“I wish my parents could’ve lived to see me at CBS. They would’ve gotten such a kick out of that—especially my dad.”
